In the summer of 1949, Josef Eisemann keeps all of Vienna in suspense. To escape his financial difficulties, he puts on a special show for a month: a tightrope walk across the Danube Canal. Encouraged by the roaring crowd, he offers increasingly daring tricks on the tightrope during the four weeks. However, his final and grandest of all spectacles – crossing the rope with his daughter on his shoulders – costs them both their lives.

Im Sommer 1949 hält der Seiltänzer Josef Eisemann ganz Wien in Atem. Um seinen finanziellen Nöten zu entkommen, zeigt er einen Monat lang ein besonderes Schauspiel: Einen Seiltanz quer über den Donaukanal. Ermutigt durch die tobende Menge bietet er während der vier Wochen immer waghalsigere Kunststücke auf dem Seil. Doch das letzte und größte aller Spektakel – die Überquerung des Seils mit seiner Tochter auf den Schultern – kostet beide das Leben.
